The activities in this book are aimed at those pupils between 7 and 10 years old whose ability and attainment are above that normally expected of children of their age. All the activities are intended to be used by these pupils at times when the Mathematics being taught, learned, practised and consolidated in the class as a whole is not relevant to their needs. The wide variety of investigations and tasks means that children with higher ability and varying needs can be catered for successfully. Input from the teacher is essential but minimal. Activities involve investigation, problem solving or research designed to deepen and widen students’ experience and understanding of Mathematics; to develop and enhance their problem solving, thinking and Mathematical Skills.
